  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk (or milk + ½ tsp vinegar)
  • 1 ½ cups apples, peeled & diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

For the Cinnamon Swirl (Optional):

  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

For the Topping (Optional):

  • ¼ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 tbsp coarse sugar

How to Make It:

Step 1: Prepare the Batter

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. In another bowl, whisk melted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  5. Fold in the diced apples.

Step 2: Add the Cinnamon Swirl (Optional)

  1. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
  2. Pour half of the batter into the loaf pan, then sprinkle half of the cinnamon mixture.
  3. Add the rest of the batter and sprinkle the remaining cinnamon mixture.
  4. Swirl with a knife for a marbled effect.

Step 3: Bake the Bread

  1. If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts and coarse sugar on top for extra crunch.
  2. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  3. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips for the Best Apple Cinnamon Bread:

Use tart apples – Granny Smith or Honeycrisp balance the sweetness.
Don’t overmix – Stir until just combined for a tender texture.
Let it cool completely – This helps the flavors develop.
Make it extra moist – Add ¼ cup applesauce for extra softness!

Storage & Freezing:

  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
  • Freeze slices for up to 3 months – just wrap in plastic and thaw when ready!
