Ingredients

Scale

For the Burger Patties:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey, chicken, or your preferred protein)

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp dried oregano

  • 1 tsp dried basil

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

For the Cabbage Nests:

  • 68 large cabbage leaves (from a head of cabbage)

  • 1 tbsp olive oil

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Toppings (optional):

  • Sliced tomatoes

  • Pickles

  • Sliced cheese (optional)

  • Lettuce

  • Mustard or ketchup (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cabbage Nests

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Remove 6-8 large cabbage leaves from the head of cabbage. If the leaves are thick, you can blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes and then cool them under cold water for easy folding.

  3. Pat the cabbage leaves dry with a paper towel and brush both sides with a light coating of olive oil. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.

  4. Arrange the cabbage leaves on a baking sheet, overlapping them slightly to form a nest-like shape.

  5. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the cabbage is tender and lightly browned at the edges. Remove from the oven and set aside.

Step 2: Make the Burger Patties

  1. While the cabbage nests bake, prepare the burger patties. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix everything until well combined.

  2. Divide the mixture into 4-6 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.

  3. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the patties are browned and cooked through. You can adjust the cooking time depending on how well-done you like your burgers.

  4. Once cooked, remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.

Step 3: Assemble the Burgers

  1. Place one baked cabbage nest on each plate.

  2. Place a cooked burger patty inside the cabbage nest.

  3. Add your favorite toppings, such as sliced tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, and a slice of cheese if desired.

  4. Optionally, you can add mustard, ketchup, or any other condiments you enjoy.

Step 4: Serve

  1. Serve your Baked Cabbage Nest Burgers immediately, while the patties are still hot. Enjoy the crunch of the cabbage paired with the savory burger!

Notes

Use Fresh Cabbage Leaves – Choose large, tender cabbage leaves for the nests. The cabbage should be flexible enough to form a nest, so select softer, more pliable leaves.

Customize Your Patties – Feel free to experiment with different spices, herbs, and flavorings in the burger patties to make them unique. Add a dash of Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, or even grated cheese for an extra twist.

Adjust the Cabbage Nest Size – Depending on the size of your cabbage leaves, you can create one large nest or multiple smaller nests to hold the burger patties. The choice is yours!

Add More Veggies – You can also stuff your cabbage nests with extra veggies like sautéed mushrooms or roasted bell peppers for added flavor and texture.
