½ tsp salt
-
¼ tsp black pepper
-
1 tbsp olive oil (for cooking)

6–8 large cabbage leaves (from a head of cabbage)
-
1 tbsp olive oil
-
Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Toppings (optional):

Sliced tomatoes
-
Pickles

Sliced cheese (optional)

Lettuce
-
Mustard or ketchup (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Cabbage Nests
-
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Remove 6-8 large cabbage leaves from the head of cabbage. If the leaves are thick, you can blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes and then cool them under cold water for easy folding.
-
Pat the cabbage leaves dry with a paper towel and brush both sides with a light coating of olive oil. Season with a pinch of salt and pepper.
-
Arrange the cabbage leaves on a baking sheet, overlapping them slightly to form a nest-like shape.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until the cabbage is tender and lightly browned at the edges. Remove from the oven and set aside.
Step 2: Make the Burger Patties
-
While the cabbage nests bake, prepare the burger patties. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, minced garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix everything until well combined.
-
Divide the mixture into 4-6 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty.
-
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, or until the patties are browned and cooked through. You can adjust the cooking time depending on how well-done you like your burgers.
-
Once cooked, remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.
Step 3: Assemble the Burgers
-
Place one baked cabbage nest on each plate.
-
Place a cooked burger patty inside the cabbage nest.
-
Add your favorite toppings, such as sliced tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, and a slice of cheese if desired.
-
Optionally, you can add mustard, ketchup, or any other condiments you enjoy.
Step 4: Serve
-
Serve your Baked Cabbage Nest Burgers immediately, while the patties are still hot. Enjoy the crunch of the cabbage paired with the savory burger!
Notes
Use Fresh Cabbage Leaves – Choose large, tender cabbage leaves for the nests. The cabbage should be flexible enough to form a nest, so select softer, more pliable leaves.
Customize Your Patties – Feel free to experiment with different spices, herbs, and flavorings in the burger patties to make them unique. Add a dash of Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, or even grated cheese for an extra twist.
Adjust the Cabbage Nest Size – Depending on the size of your cabbage leaves, you can create one large nest or multiple smaller nests to hold the burger patties. The choice is yours!
Add More Veggies – You can also stuff your cabbage nests with extra veggies like sautéed mushrooms or roasted bell peppers for added flavor and texture.
