Ingredients

Scale

For the Batter:

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon-Sugar Topping:

  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 ½ cups hot water

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat & Prepare

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Pour the melted butter into a 9×9-inch baking dish.

Step 2: Make the Batter

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Stir in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter. Do not stir.

Step 3: Add the Cinnamon-Sugar Topping

  1. In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Sprinkle the mixture evenly over the batter.
  3. Carefully pour the hot water over the top. Do not stir—this creates a caramelized, gooey layer.

Step 4: Bake & Serve

  1. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden and set.
  2. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
  3. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

No Stirring Needed – Let the layers form naturally while baking.
Use Fresh Cinnamon – For the best warm, spiced flavor.
Best Served Warm – The gooey texture is at its peak right out of the oven.
