2 oz cream cheese (optional for extra creaminess)
1 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (thyme, chives, or parsley)
¼ tsp garlic powder
¼ tsp freshly ground black pepper

For the Breading:
½ cup all-purpose flour
1 large egg, beaten
¾ cup panko breadcrumbs
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp smoked paprika (optional)

For Frying:
Vegetable oil (for deep or shallow frying)

For Serving (Optional):
Honey or hot honey drizzle
Balsamic glaze
Chopped fresh herbs
Toasted baguette slices
Salad greens for plating

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cheese Mixture

  1. In a bowl, combine goat cheese, cream cheese, chopped herbs, garlic powder, and black pepper.

  2. Mix until smooth and creamy.

  3. Chill in the freezer for 10–15 minutes to firm up for easier shaping.

Step 2: Roll into Balls

  1. Scoop out about 1 tablespoon of the chilled mixture and roll into 1-inch balls.

  2. Place on a tray lined with parchment paper.

  3. Freeze for 10 more minutes to help them hold their shape during coating.

Step 3: Set Up Your Breading Station

  1. Place flour in the first shallow bowl.

  2. Beat the egg in the second bowl.

  3. Combine panko breadcrumbs, salt, and paprika in the third bowl.

Step 4: Bread the Cheese Balls

  1. Roll each ball in flour, then dip in the beaten egg, then coat in panko breadcrumbs.

  2. For extra crunch, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.

  3. Set aside on a tray and refrigerate for 5–10 minutes to set.

Step 5: Fry Until Golden

  1. Heat 2–3 inches of oil in a deep skillet or saucepan to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Fry the goat cheese balls in batches for 1–2 minutes, turning as needed, until golden brown.

  3. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

Step 6: Serve and Enjoy

  1. Plate warm with a drizzle of honey or balsamic glaze.

  2. Sprinkle with fresh herbs or serve on top of a salad for a fancy touch.

  3. Enjoy while the centers are warm and creamy.

Notes

Chill the Cheese – Cold cheese is easier to shape and holds up better when frying.
Double Bread – For an extra crunchy coating, repeat the egg and breadcrumb steps.
Use Panko – These breadcrumbs give the crispiest texture.
Don’t Overcrowd the Pan – Fry in small batches to keep the oil temperature consistent.
Pair with Dips – Serve with fruit chutneys, aioli, or spicy jam for a fun flavor combo.
