Ingredients
For the Ground Beef Gravy:
-
1 lb ground beef
-
½ small onion, finely diced
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
-
2 cups beef broth
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
½ tsp onion powder
-
Salt & pepper to taste
-
1 tbsp butter (optional for richness)
For the Mashed Potatoes:
-
2 lbs russet or Yukon gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
-
½ cup milk (warmed)
-
¼ cup butter
-
Salt to taste
Instructions
Boil the potatoes in salted water for 12–15 minutes or until fork-tender. Drain, then mash with butter and warm milk. Season with salt and set aside.
In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add diced onion and garlic, and sauté for 2–3 minutes until fragrant and softened.
Sprinkle flour over the beef and stir well to coat. Cook for 1 minute to eliminate raw flour taste. Slowly whisk in beef broth, then add Worcestershire, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened. Stir in butter if using.
Spoon a generous portion of mashed potatoes onto a plate or bowl. Ladle the savory beef gravy over the top. Finish with cracked black pepper or a sprinkle of fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
Use Yukon gold potatoes for extra creamy mash.
Add frozen peas or corn to the gravy for a veggie boost.
Make it cheesy by stirring shredded cheddar into the mashed potatoes.
Got mushrooms? Sauté them with the onion for extra flavor.
